Looking to a future where increased machine labor is applied domestically, Soft Robots is a testing ground for friendly robot-human cohabitation. With all domestic labor tasked to the robots, residents have leisure time to pursue their creative passions. robots work in the living units above, which they keep clean and tidy for the humans while the art studios on the ground floor allow for creative messiness, public participation, and spontaneous creation. steel and glass circulation towers connect the two, allowing for residents to observe the creative process and entice them to make use of their newfound free time.
The building provides the infrastructure necessary to create a living space free of domestic labor. It does not attempt to hide these elements, but instead highlights them by allowing their movement to impact the experience of the occupants. The robots are a mechanical system integrated into the building that creates a spectacle as it works. they chance the interior experience as they move through the units, and are expressed below the housing.
